It’s most likely an issue with the condensate drain line. The condensate drain line is where the condensation from adjusting the temperature of air goes. The water has to go somewhere, so most homes have a PVC pipe that leads outside. How do you know if something is wrong?

The Signs: Leaking & Overflowing Pan

If you notice water leaking around your air conditioning unit, you have an issue with your condensate line. At the first sign of water around your unit, call us to come take a look.

All air conditioning units have an overflow pan that captures the condensation as it leaves the house. Most have a switch within them so that the water cannot fully overflow and flood your house. If the switch is hit by the water, it turns off the unit so that no more condensation can fill up the pan. If you don’t have a pan with a switch, then the water will overflow and flood.

If your air conditioning is not working, check the pan. If the pan has overflowed, this is a definite sign that there is an issue with your condensate line.

The Cause: Clogs

If your condensation line has not been cleaned or looked at in quite some time, there is a high chance that there is buildup within the line. Debris or algae are the most common blockage culprits. When the line is clogged, the condensation has nowhere to go which leads to overflowing pans and water leaks.

In some cases, this will cause the AC units will stop working, while in other cases they will flood and there will be water damage in your home.
