Happy September! Now that the cooler weather is closer, it is time to make sure your home and all your plumbing features are ready.
At Marines Plumbing, we recommend doing the following three things to prepare for the cool temperatures.
With all the rain we’ve had this summer, and especially recently, it is important to check your sump pump and make sure it has not malfunctioned during the summer. Though it may not have failed in a catastrophic way, there is still the potential for a minor malfunction. Make sure to check not only the sump pump itself, but also the area around the pump. Be on the lookout for any indication of water damage.
As the days get shorter and the temperatures colder, we will start to use more hot water. Longer showers and hot baths can be a real reprieve from the cold. Hot water heaters are built tough, but just like any appliance are susceptible to wear and tear. It is important to get them serviced annually to make sure they are working to their full potential.
If you see any indication of water leaking or notice that your water isn’t as hot, call us today.
Now that we are not trying to beat the heat every day, it is time to turn off and pack up all the summer accessories. Make sure that water hoses are turned off and disconnected. In order to get the most life out of your hose, it is best to store it before cold weather hits. If there is any water left inside the hose, it could freeze in the colder temperatures.
Likewise, make sure any sprinklers or sprinkler systems are turned off and stored away. In addition to potential plumbing problems, no one wants to step on or mow over a rogue sprinkler head!
At Marines Plumbing, we are welcoming this cool weather with open arms! Make sure that your home is ready for the cooler weather by following these simple tips. If you have any reason to suspect your water heater or sump pump aren’t working, call us today!
